Privacy Notice
This Privacy Notice will explain to you how we, Cambridge Talking News Association, process any personal data we collect about you. We act as a ‘controller’ as defined in the General Data Protection Regulation (the ‘GDPR’) and we are committed to safeguarding your privacy.
Who we are
Cambridge Talking News Association is a registered charity in England and Wales with registered charity number 268422. We provide a weekly recording of news and general features to blind and partially sighted people.
The personal data we hold
We only collect the minimum amount of information about you necessary to enable us to send you our weekly recordings. The personal data we collect in most cases is provided by you and is limited to your name, postal address, email address and telephone number. We do not share your personal data with any other party, company or individual apart from our service providers (such as IT providers) or if we are required to do so by law. The Cambridge Talking News website does not use analytics. Data submitted through the website contact form is not stored within the website framework or on the server.
How we use your personal data?
We will use your personal data for the purposes of distributing recordings which cover news stories, events and general information about your local area. We will send our weekly recordings to you on a memory stick without charge, along with a return envelope, courtesy of the Post Office. We do not carry out any direct marketing using your personal data.
Our justification (a ‘lawful basis’ under the GDPR) for processing your personal data is that we have a ‘legitimate interest’ (as defined in the GDPR) to respond to a request to receive our weekly recordings.
Data retention
We will only retain your personal data for as long as we send you our recordings. If you ask us to stop sending you our recordings we will delete your personal data within one month of your request.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, subject to certain exceptions, you have the right to request access to your personal data, have that personal data erased or corrected, object to or restrict the processing of your personal data, or to have your personal data transferred to another controller.
At any time, should you wish for us to stop sending the recordings to you, please include a note when returning your memory stick or contact us using the details provided in this policy. We will then remove all the personal data we hold about you.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint about how we process your personal data with the Information Commissioner’s Office (the ‘ICO’). Before you submit a complaint to the ICO we would welcome the opportunity to resolve the issue and ask that you, or someone acting on your behalf, contact us using the details provided in this policy.
